Welcome to the online home of Georgia Poetry in the Parks, a celebration of Georgia poets and Georgia’s green spaces. Each season, we will present poems from writers across the state, from the mountains of North Georgia to the coastal plain. Many of the poets featured on the path have lived in Georgia for decades, while some are transplants. Others have moved away, but still consider the Peach State home.

Like nature, poetry offers us powerful moments of reflection and connection – we read the lines of a poem alone, but as we do, we hear the words of someone who walks the same earth and stands under the same sky. For a moment, we share their perspective on the world, and perhaps widen our own.

On this site, you’ll find information on our featured poets as well as creative prompts to get you started on your own path to poetry or prose. We hope you’ll explore the site, then hit the trails at participating parks.

A collaboration between the Georgia Center for the Book and Georgia Poet Laureate Chelsea Rathburn, Georgia Poetry in the Parks is made possible by the Academy of American Poets and the Mellon Foundation.
